Small Web Game

Finally, Not a Boring Calculator!

A fully functional calculator turned into a playful game, blending practical math with juicy game feel and speed challenges

Overview

Most calculators are… boring. Lifeless. Gray. Uninspiring.
With this project, we set out to reimagine the calculator experience by combining practical functionality with playful, engaging game mechanics.

The result is a fully functional calculator that also feels alive — every button press, animation, and visual effect is designed to provide a sense of impact, satisfaction, and fun. Beyond utility, this project became a creative playground to explore game feel, UI polish, and interactive design.

Key Features

  • Dual functionality: Acts as a standard calculator while offering a game mode for speed and precision challenges.

  • Game Mode Mechanics: Players replicate displayed operations before the timer runs out, earning points and leveling up.

  • Polished UI & UX: Squishy buttons, animated labels, and subtle visual cues for hover and press interactions.

  • Dynamic Feedback: Particle effects, flashes, and audio feedback (with pitch variation) enhance the tactile experience.

  • Customizable Experience: No background music included, allowing players to enjoy their favorite tracks while playing.

  • Optimized for Web: Fully playable online with smooth performance and responsive design.

Development Highlights

This project showcases a balance of creativity and technical execution:

  • Advanced Godot 4 tweening techniques for smooth animations.

  • Simple UI design ensuring clarity and usability.

  • Thoughtful game feel design, turning a mundane task into an engaging experience.

  • Iterative development capturing humorous challenges and clever problem-solving along the way — from button misalignment disasters to achieving the perfect “squishy” feedback.
